Fishing the Aliens with MER – CYBC Interview

Our partners Marine and Environmental Research Lab (MER) and chef Petros Yiangou, were interviewed by Michalis Hadjigeorgiou from “Spiti sti Fysi” (Σπίτι στη Φύση) show at Cyprus Broadcasting Federation about Invasive Alien Species (IAS) and how a problem in the Eastern Mediterranean is being turned into a solution through the inclusion of local fishers, chefs and consumers.

Biological pollution ranks as the third greatest threat to biodiversity in the marine environment and is responsible for the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Through our “Fish the Alien” project we aimed in supporting the development of supply chains that will benefit the local economies, promote sustainable seafood consumption and sustainable fishery and build incentives to achieve removals of alien species providing fishers with an extra income and supporting our marine environments.
