The challenge

This project aims to address the harmful lack of awareness regarding the natural areas of Cyprus and their significance. Cyprus’ natural heritage and biodiversity are irreversibly altered at an alarming rate, driven by unsustainable economic models build on cultural perceptions that ignore the true value of nature. The absence of a modern book documenting Cyprus’ landscapes reflects a broader lack of concern for these critical issues.

The solution

The publication of ‘Aspelia Naturalis’, a captivating coffee table book featuring the landscape photography of Silvio Augusto Rusmigo, will be showcasing the unique landscapes of Cyprus, as captured over fifteen years of his career. It intertwines personal accounts, historical facts, and environmental insights, inspiring readers to explore beyond the ordinary and embrace the island’s limitless beauty. With a focus on cultural and natural heritage, this first-of-its-kind publication aims to foster appreciation and stewardship for this cherished land. Designed to resonate deeply with Cypriots, the project seeks to instil a sense of pride and appreciation within Cypriot society for our natural and cultural heritage.

A bit about the organization

Silvio Augusto Rusmigo is a freelance documentary and commercial photographer based in Cyprus, with a passion for capturing the beauty and significance of nature conservation, heritage, and the great outdoors. Growing up on a Mediterranean island, Silvio was inspired by the people, folklore, and natural landscapes that surrounded me. His work reflects this inspiration and aims to tell stories that communicate the importance of exploring and appreciating the environment we live in. Whether working on personal or commissioned projects, his goal is to capture moments that communicate the value of our surroundings.
