‘Increasing Marine Environmental Awareness Through the Creative Arts’: milestone achieved
Rebecca Katsaris, leader of the project ‘Increasing Marine Environmental Awareness Through the Creative Arts’, recently participated in the European Marine Science Educators’ Association (EMSEA) conference in Ostend, Belgium.
She presented the upcoming research paper titled ‘Cultivating Mediterranean Marine Awareness and Environmental Empathy Through Music Education – A Qualitative Study in Five Greek-Cypriot Schools’, co-authored with music educator and researcher Christina Charalambidou.
The paper showcasing just a small part of their work, highlights the powerful role of music as a tool to foster ocean awareness and cultivate a deeper love for our seas.
Rebecca beautifully expressed her heartfelt sentiments, stating, ‘Deep gratitude also to all the incredible ocean people for the work they do to restore our Ocean — the Mother of all Life, as described in Janssen & Mees’ wonderful book ‘The Unknown Sea’… I left Ostend feeling profoundly thankful for this vibrant, passionate, and hardworking community. It is an absolute honour to be part of it.
A special thank you to the Cyprus Environment Foundation for funding this unique and vital experience as part of our project ‘Increasing Marine Environmental Awareness Through the Creative Arts’ and, of course, to Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre for their ongoing support!’
